PPSOE Marks World Parkinson’s Day Through “Cupcake” Awareness Event
Addis Ababa, April 18, 2026 – The Parkinson Patients Support Organization Ethiopia (PPSOE), with support from Parkinson Africa, organized a “Cupcake” awareness event at the Tesfa Social and Development Association compound to commemorate World Parkinson’s Day.
The event aimed to raise awareness about Parkinson’s disease, particularly among older adults, while encouraging greater community understanding of the condition. Through awareness discussions, distribution of informational flyers in Amharic, and the sharing of cupcakes, PPSOE engaged elderly participants, children, local residents, and volunteers in a friendly and interactive setting.
More than 100 elderly individuals participated directly, while approximately 300 people from the wider community were reached through the event. A total of 300 awareness flyers and 200 cupcakes were distributed.
The program also featured free basic health screenings and consultations provided by around 20 medical volunteers. Participants learned about the signs and symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and where to seek medical support. Individuals showing possible symptoms were advised to seek further medical evaluation and care.
The strong participation of children and local community members demonstrated the value of inclusive, community-based approaches in raising awareness and fostering support for people living with Parkinson’s disease.
PPSOE expressed its gratitude to Parkinson Africa, medical volunteers, and all community members who contributed to the success of the event and reaffirmed its commitment to improving awareness, early detection, and support for people affected by Parkinson’s disease in Ethiopia.
