Panel Discussion on Aging, Parkinson’s Disease, and Elderly Care

A panel discussion on aging, Parkinson’s disease, and elderly care was jointly organized by the Parkinson Patients Support Organization Ethiopia, Addis Ababa University, the Ethiopian Neurologists Association, and Newcastle University.

The forum addressed various key topics, including the challenges faced by elderly individuals and Parkinson’s patients within Ethiopian medical institutions and healthcare processes.

Additionally, discussions were held on the policy clarification process initiated by the Parkinson Patients Support Organization Ethiopia, which aims to enable Parkinson’s patients to receive treatment at primary healthcare facilities.

As part of this effort, healthcare professionals received specialized training, led by Dr. Richard from Newcastle University and Dr. Seblewengel Asmare, President of the Ethiopian Neurologists Association. Health professionals from various healthcare centers participated in the training, which is expected to accelerate the integration of Parkinson’s care into primary healthcare services.

ትኩረቱን እርጅና፣ የፓርኪንሰን በሽታ እና ለአረጋውያን ስለሚደረግ እንክብካቤ ላይ ያደረገ የምክክር መድረክ ተካሄደ፡፡

ፓርኪንሰን ፔሸንትስ ሰፖርት ኦርጋናይዤሽን ኢትዮጵያ፡ አዲስ አበባ ዩኒቨርሲቲ፤ የኢትዮጵያ ኒዩሮሎጂስቶች ማህበር እና የኒውካስትል ዩኒቭርሲቲ በጋራ ያዘጋጁት የባለድርሻ አካላት ውይይት ተካሂዷል፡፡

በመድረኩ የተለያዩ አጀንዳዎች ቀርበው ውይይት የተደረገባቸው ሲሆን በዋናነትም በኢትዮጵያ የህክምና ተቋማትና ሂደት ውስጥ አረጋውያንና የፓርኪንሰን ህሙማን  የሚያጋጥማቸው ፈተና ይገኝበታል፡፡

በተጨማሪም ፓርኪንሰን ፔሸንትስ ሰፖርት ኦርጋናይዤሽን ኢትዮጵያ የፓርኪንሰን ህሙማን በመጀመሪያ ደረጃ በሚገኙ የጤና ተቋማት ህክምና እንዲያገኙ ለማስቻል ያሰራው የፖሊሲ ማብራርያ ሂደት ያለበት ደረጃ ውይይት ተደርጎበታል፡፡

በተያያዘም የዚሁ ስራ አካል የሆነው የጤና ባለሞያዎች ስልጠናም የተሰጠ ሲሆን የኒውካስትል ዩኒቨሲቲ ባልደረባ የሆነው ዶክተር ሪቻርድ እንዲሁም የኢትዮጵያ ኒዮሮሎጂስቶች ማህበር ፕሬዘዳንት በሆነችው ዶክተር ሰብለውንጌል አስማረ አማካኝነት ተሰጥቷል፡፡

ከተለያዩ የጤና ጣቢያዎች የተውጣጡ የጤና ባለሞያዎች የተሳተፉ ሲሆን ይህም የፓርኪንሰን ህሙማን በመጀመሪያ ደረጃ የህክምና ተቋማት ህክምና እንዲያገኙ ለማስቻል የሚደረገውን ሂደት እንደሚያፋጥን ታምኖበታል፡፡
